Welcome
On Sunday May 18, 2025 competitors and instructors from around the world will meet online to 1) hear the results of the International String Connections 2025 performance COMPETITION and 2) to take part in a CONFERENCE featuring performances, scholarly presentations, and discussions.
Our purpose is to create a lively network of string connections – colleagues and students – in an exchange of pedagogical/musical knowledge and demonstration of performance skills.
The COMPETITION will take place through video submissions and is free of charge. Each competitor will submit 2 contrasting pieces or movements, with accompaniment as needed.
Recordings will be accepted until May 1, 2025.
We welcome in the solo categories participants in violin, viola, cello, double-bass, harp, and guitar from 5 to 25 years of age. We are pleased to introduce this year two new categories: chamber group with strings (with or without winds) and string orchestra.
This competition is by invitation only (i.e., we welcome friends of friends, colleagues of colleagues, etc.) and we encourage previous participants to invite others to this event. The participating instructors are invited to serve as adjudicators for the competition (except for their own students).
Instructors are also invited to present on a topic of their choice at the CONFERENCE, via a pre-recorded video presentation (up to about 10 minutes). Discussion about each of these presentations will take place after the competition results are announced in May. Instructors are also welcome to share links of videos of their own performances.
Last year’s inaugural competition featured many video performances by established artist-teachers and their students, from Ukraine, Egypt, Russia, Canada, Brazil, Cuba, Germany, Cyprus, Switzerland, and the United States.
